Wolf by Wolf is an alternate history with a dash of fantasy.

As a young Jewish girl living after the events of the second World War, Yael has lost many people. And the losses continue, because in her world the Nazis won and Hitler still rules. But her time being experimented on in concentration camps left Yael with an extraordinary gift - the power to shift her skin to appear however she wants. And with the annual motorbike race approaching, Yael will finally have a chance to enact her revenge and kill the Fuhrer.

Fast paced and fascinating, Wolf by Wolf explores a world in which history may have gone differently. It's a concept that's been done before, but the addition of splendid symbolism makes this book stand out a little more from those that have preceded it.

I was a little let down by this book, but I can't put my finger on quite why this was. As much as the concept interested me, I never truly felt invested in Yael's physical journey in contrast to her emotional journey. There were parts of the race where I failed to feel engaged because there wasn't much adrenaline and feeling presented in the language, which was a shame since it made up almost the entirety of the book. But I will say the pacing was really successful, and the blend of past and present events was balanced perfectly.

I doubt I will continue this series, but I did enjoy this book. Although imperfect, it was worth the read.

An ebook copy of this book was provided to me via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Diversity Note: Jewish Protagonist
